Okay, Justin, or hck, this was a good one. Very informative. I would never use an electric blanket as I am afraid of them. Sort of.
Good informative hub...thanks! :)
I had an electric blanket years ago when I was about 15. Our flat was being rewired by the local council and smoke alarms fitted, storage heaters etc
I had the electric blanket in the cupboard for a while and decided to take it out as it was really cold because the workmen had been in and out and the house was upside down. I fell asleep with the thing left on and woke up with the smoke alarm beeping at 2am and got out of bed and was looking around to see why it was beeping and couldnt find anything, went back into my room and the middle of the bed was smouldering away, the electric blanket had started burning outwards from the centre, burnt a huge hole in my matress and also on the sheets and blankets! If it wasnt for the smoke alarms being installed Id have been dead Im sure of it and if not dead probably really really badly burned! I was sooo lucky! I wouldnt recommend an electric blanket to anybody those things are just soo dangerous! :(
Wow,..actually I was planning on buying one this weekend but after hearing about the one catching fire, I am like,..hmmmm. I had one also when i was a teen and never had a problem with it. Suppose since I can't afford new windows I'll go for the heating blanket I guess and take my chances,..LOL. Very informitive hub !!!
You give some very good information; however, misspelled words and poorly used grammar are very distracting. There are many errors in your writing. It would serve you well to take a grammar course and learn to properly construct a sentence. Also, you need to brush up on your spelling. Nevertheless, thank you for the information. It is helpful.

One point to share is one should only use electric blanket or electric mattress pad that it conforms to the standards set forth in UL964. 'UL964' is the standard widely accepted in US. Sunbeam and Biddeford are examples of brands that complied with the standard.
I remember my grandmother had one when she lived with us and hers went on fire too. But that was over 20 years ago so perhaps safety features have improved since then. Does anyone know if this is true?
Nice info! ty!
My question is, "Do they go under the person, or over?" I am not sure and saw no instruction on this matter. Thanks !!!!

Hey Justin. This is a great, informational hub. Your words are simple but get the message across. Just a tip (if you want more people to comment that is). Why not post this hub on the forums - Extreme Hub Makeover and specifically ask the experienced hubbers to look into it. I'm sure they'll be more than happy to comment on your hub. Good luck!
